I've done many surprise marriage proposals, and they are some of my favorite moments to capture. This was a particularly exciting one though because it was the quickest session I have ever booked! I got the message from Austin at 5:22am, and by 7:30am on the same morning I was on my way to photograph his surprise marriage proposal!
While the booking was lightening fast, popping the question did not come fast at all! Austin & Jess had been together for 4 years, and since she booked their little Pocono getaway at the Shawnee Inn, she had no idea what was in store for her.
Austin & I came up with a plan to meet down by the river so they could take some of their own photos together. I wandered along the river banks and acted like I was a landscape photographer taking photos of the river. After a few photos of the river, I went up to them and made some small talk.
I made up a story & told them that I am a landscape photographer looking to build my portrait portfolio and asked if I could take a couple photos of them. We did a few poses, and then I acted like I couldn’t think of another pose. Then he said, “I have a pose I’ve been really wanting to try,“ and he got down on a knee and proposed to her. It was so so so sweet. I'm still tearing up thinking about it. ♡
After she said "Yes!," we took some epic engagement photos along the river.
