First Looks and Why I Love Them | NEPA Pocono & Lehigh Valley Wedding Photographer

Lots of trends come and go when it comes to the wedding industry, but one trend that I hope is here to stay is the First Look: When a bride and groom see each other privately in their wedding attire before the wedding ceremony takes place.

I know that some people like to follow tradition when it comes to their wedding day, and one of those traditions would be waiting to see your significant other until your wedding ceremony takes place. And if you want to follow this tradition, I respect that! But if you're a rebel who likes to explore non-traditional options, here are four reasons why I think straying from tradition is A-OK when it comes to First Looks.

1) First Looks give you and your significant other a chance to have an intimate moment before the madness.

Wedding days can be hectic. Often times we have guests that travel from afar that we haven't seen in years, and sometimes couples feel like they don't have a moment to breathe until it's all over. First looks give you a chance to see your soon-to-be spouse before the hustle and bustle of the day begins without anybody around (aside from your beloved photographer, of course).

2) Get your formal portraits done so you can have more time to spend with your guests.

After you've had your First Looks is a great time to get those formal portraits done so that you don't have your guests waiting for you between the ceremony and the reception. It's also wonderful to do these portraits before the day begins so that you don't have to rush through the photos with your photographer. Win!

3) Anxiety relief!

Lots of us get anxious waiting for the big day to begin. And what is the start of the big day? Seeing your bride or groom of course! First Looks give you a chance to see your significant other before the ceremony, and often times this helps relieve the anxiety of the ceremony. The First Look gives you a chance to give your love a big squeeze and help relieve any nervous energy or anxiety. You're already together, and you have each others' backs.

4) Capture real genuine emotions.

Let's face it, lots of us may be too nervous in front of our guests to show our true emotions when we see our bride or groom, and some people may be inclined to hold back with an audience. The intimacy of a First Look with a trusted photographer gives you both a chance to respond to your significant other without worrying about an audience.

I hope you consider breaking tradition, you rebel, you.
